How To Change Logon Screen In Windows 7 & XP?

After a long time, I'm posting on windows hack. In this this tutorial, I will describe the way to changing log on screen in windows 7 & XP. Though it's a common common trick, yet many among you would be unaware from it, so I'm posting here. Before continue, take a glance at my XP tweaks section by clicking here. Coming back to the post, follow these simple steps for changing logon screen in windows 7 & XP:

• For Windows 7:
  • Go to start> run> Type regedit.
  • In Registry Editor, go to the path HKLM\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Authentication\ LogonUI\ Background.
  • In right panel, double click on OEMBackground & change its value to 1.
  • Go to the path C:\Windows\System32\oobe\Info\Backgrounds.
  • Copy any JPG file image (high resolution with size atleast 1024x786) in this this folder and rename it as BACKGROUNDDEFAULT
    
    Note: File must be in JPG format and with size less than 256KB.
  • Log off your system and you've done.
    
    
• For Windows XP:
• Go to start> run> Type regedit.
• In Registry Editor, go to the path HU\ .DEFAULT\ Control Panel\ Desktop.
• In right panel, double click on wallpaper & enter the full path of image.
  
  Note: File must be in BMP format.
• That's all.

How To Change Open Option On Right Click Of Mouse?

Do you want to play some trick with Right click option of mouse? This hack will change the default "Open" value to any other. Follow these steps:

• Go to start> run> Type regedit
• Go to the path HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT> FOLDER> SHELL> OPEN.
• On the right side panel, Open Default.
• Change it's value to whatever you want.
• That's all.

How To Enable Access To USB Ports?

In my last post, I explained about "How to disable access to USB ports?". Now I'm explaining about how to enable access to USB ports. Follow these simple steps:

• Type regedit in run.
• Go to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM> CurrentControlSet> Services> USBSTOR.
• In right panel, double click on Start.
• Change its value to 3.

How To Speed Up Menus In Windows XP?

This registry tweak will speed up your system menus, follow these steps:

• Go to start> run> Type regedit
•  Go to the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control Panel\ Desktop 
• Locate the key called "MenuShowDelay".
• It is probably set to 400.
• Change that value to 150.

How To Change Computer Processor Name In Windows?

• Go to start> run> Type regedit

How To Display The Windows Version On Your Desktop In XP?

Wanna to display the Windows version on your desktop? Try this registry hack using which you can do it easily, follow these steps:

• Go to start> run> Type regedit
• Go to the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control Panel\ Desktop.
• On the right-hand side, locate "PaintDesktopVersion" and double-click it.
• In the pop-up window, change the data to 1 and click OK.
• Restart or Logoff your computer, you will see windows version on bottom right side on your desktop. Change the value to 0 for hiding it.

How To Create Logon Message On System Startup?

Lets play some trick with system startup! This trick will create a logon message on system startup, follow these steps:

• Go to start> run> Type regedit
• Go to the path HKLM\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ Current version\ Winlogon. 
• In the right panel modify value of LegalNoticeCaption and type whatever you want to display as title.
• Modify value of legalNoticeText and type whatever you want to display.
• Restart your PC, a log on message will appear on startup.
• That's all.

How To Change Default Directory Of Software Installation?

Series of registry trick continues! Using this trick, you can change default directory of software installation, follow these steps:

• Go to start> run> Type regedit
• Go to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion.
• In right side panel, double click on ProgramFileDir.
• Modify the value to any other drive (for example E:\Program Files).
• That's all.
